This quote is saying that you being a good person is better than you having to win something and not feeling proud about it. It is saying that if you had to the chance to let a person from the other team shoot a basket and having to loose the championship is better than hurting that other person and everyone booing you at the end. You should always make your self proud by doing things that include making you and your characteristic good. you should always try getting yourself good nick names even its not such amazing what you did. For example if you do something that is bad, many people will hate you and see you as a bad person . If you something that didn't make you win but others think it is an amazing thing you did they will see you an a good influence.
